‘Wait here’ by Donal Moloney documents and traces a selection of his paintings from 2022-25.

The book features a newly commissioned text by curator Chris Clarke and a poem by Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh.

His recent paintings are meditations on absorption and daydreaming. Enigmatic scenarios are constructed from layers of personal and historical references and allusions. What emerges is dreamlike and kaleidoscopic. Volcanoes, figures, castles, churches, treetops and boats interweave and dissolve into one another. Each incongruous scene bounds together the mundane with the resplendent through a range of fade outs, glimpses and vignettes. Absorbed in their thoughts, the unperturbed protagonists of these paintings appear adrift in their surroundings. The factual and the fictional, the fantastical and the everyday, emerge as fragments that solidify into the painting’s surface.
