Moloney’s paintings are visions of an imagined future. Both prophetic and otherworldly, they depict fragments of a world in which nature has reclaimed the objects and structures of our cultures. Enigmatic scenes emerge through the repeated layering of personal and historical references. Delicately rendered nests, webs and castles interweave and dissolve into one another. Weathered textures and submerged forms coalesce through luminous veils of kaleidoscopic colour. What emerges has accreted into a dreamlike palimpsest. Through painterly processes of ruination, Moloney’s paintings become spaces for imagining alternative futures.
Donal Moloney lives and works in Cork. He studied at the Crawford College of Art (BA), the Slade School of Fine Art (MFA) and University of the Arts London (PhD).
